All-Time Favorite RPG?
Given the number of RPGs out there these days, everyone that loves RPGs must have a favorite (offline) RPG. Post your favorite RPG(s) and explain why it's your favorite. Here goes mine:
All-Favorite RPG:
Final Fantasy VI
Close Runner-Ups:
Chrono Cross
Chrono Trigger
Destiny of an Emperor
Dragon Quest VIII
Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy Tactics
Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete
Suikoden
Suikoden II
Notable Mentions:
Disgaea: Hour of Darkness
Dragon Warrior III
Dragon Quest V
Dragon Quest VI
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy X
SaGa Frontier
Skies of Arcadia
Suikoden III
Super Mario RPG
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Xenogears
Why Final Fantasy VI: Back during the Super Nintendo days, RPGs were still a niche genre (in the U.S. anyway). When Square released Final Fantasy VI (known as III back then), it blew me away. FFVI had a rich, in-depth storyline, as well as great character development. The storyline introduced several plotlines and issues which kept you wanting to find out and play more. Kefka, the main villain of FFVI, was definitely convincing as a villain, with all of the heinous acts he committed in the game. Who could ever forget Kefka's laugh??
Gameplay, while similar to other Final Fantasy games, is particularly fun in Final Fantasy VI, with 14 characters with unique skills at your disposal. Character skills like Sabin's Blitz and Relm's Sketch were fun to use. FFVI was also non-linear in parts of the game (especially in the second half of the game), giving you the ability to choose what to do next. The music was memorable as well, as Nobuo Uematsu composed music that matched well with the game.

All-Time Favorite RPG?
All-Favorite RPG:
Final Fantasy IX
Close Runner-Ups:
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy I and II
Notable Mentions:
Final Fantasy VIII
Fable: The Lost Chapters
Yeah, Final Fantasy games.
Final Fantasy IX... I like fantasy worlds and Final Fantasy IX has more fantasy things than VII or VIII. I havent played it through because I am too lazy to train my chars but I like it still.
One thing there is that there is so much to do. I have done much but there is still more to do
(At least I have found every chocobo treasures
).
From those games I have played through only Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy II and Fable: The Lost Chapters.
Fable nearly 2 times.
I have thought to get The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion but havent got it yet. I looked trailer from it and it looked cool.

My favourite was and always will be diablo 2 xD
I just love the storyline, gameplay and the indepth character creation it allows you to do. Not to mention decent graphics (at that time) and nice cut scenes to argument the storyline.

hahaha. told you Lunar knights and Custom Robo Arena were good games XD.
Heres my list:
Game Boy/ DS
- Breath of fire
Has a nice storyline. Never got the chance to play breath of fire 2.
- Golden Sun
Very interesting features, like solving puzzles with skills that could also be used outside battles. And of course an original storyline.
- Golden Sun 2 (gotta love them both
)
Same as Golden Sun
- Lunar Knights
Fun to play. Especially with the swordsman character
Got ben hooked too
- Custom Robo Arena
Decided to try it. Thought it was fun. Winning battles wasnt about having the strongest equipment, but also the players skills. The Wi Fi feature is fun too, battling players all around the world. (got ben hooked to this game XD)
PC
- Diablo 2
Thought Diablo 1 was good. Think that diablo 2 is even better. fun to play with all the different chars.
- Fable: The lost chapters (finished it 10 times, still playing XD)
Every game turns out to be more different than the first one.
GC:
- Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles
Not really the greatest RPG, but still fun to play with friends or family

All-Time Favorite RPG?
All Time Favorite RPG:
Final Fantasy IX
Close Runner-ups:
Super Mario RPG
Final Fantasy VII
Havest Moon Series
I must say that Final Fantasy IX takes the cake (although not by much, Mario RPG was amazing...)
I liked the return to the more classic Final Fantasy feel, the return of the more mystical, fantasy, type gameplay, much more heavy on magic and summons and the likewise as opposed to a few of the earlier Final Fantasy games with the very militaristic feel; not to mention Vivi is easily my favorite character from any Final Fantasy game. Not to mention that Nobuo Uematsu once again did a completely amazing job on the music, I must say the opening screens song "The Place I'll Return to Someday" moves me everytime I hear it.
AS for my runner-ups, most of them should be very well understood as its BOTH Mario and an RPG, and almost everyone in the world agrees that FFVII pwns, I'm surprised no one has mentioned any of the Harvest Moon games, then again I'm a loser, but they should at least be checked out, I know the game seems a bit slow but then again it was the first game that introduced the idea of a "Dating Sim" to America (not to be confused w/the porn ones i know a lot of ppl play) and for a change it sticks very close to a true RPG, allowing the player do a wide variety of things, and following a very little storyline, leaving most of the decision making up to the player.
Quick Edit: If you want to get ahold of the music or soemthing from a popular action/RPG I found that Blue Lagunas Media Archive can be a great sorce for this, they have a wide selection of music from most of the Final Fantasy games as well as a few other nice games/series

All-Time Favorite RPG?
MY Favorite RPG of all Time:
Wild Arms 1, for Play Station 1
Opening for Wild Arms 1, PS 1
I loved that game because of the mixture it had: awesome story and turns, the anime touch they gave to the scenes, they actually made a world where you can find your favorite style:
Normally the main char always uses a blade or sword like weapon in RPGs, but here you got 3 main chars, and each has its own style:
-Weapons (called A R M S) and technology
-Swords
-Magic (Both White and Black Magic)
The simplicity and at the same time dificulty of the dungeons was great, I remember this scene that i couldn't figure out during a week until accidentally made my way through and called my cousin so he would come and play.
My cousin and I had fun playing it also because both controllers can move the character, so during the battle scenes each one could chose the movements our character would do, at max 3 chars can fight in the same scene against the monsters, so we had an extra char another friend would choose the movements for.
If you are interested to try this Wild Arms, and you have a PS2 , there is a remake, i haven't played it tho so i cant asure it will be as awesome as the one for PS1, but the opening just made me remember how awesome this game is:
Opening for Wild Arms 1 remake for PS2 (Wild Arms , Alter code F)
Another Wild Arms, i wanna try is number 5, I love the opening, its like some anime serie, and they keep the same world, the world of Filgaia, the same basis for weapons i think: ARMS, swords and magic, they probably have added more stuff by now:
Wild Arms 5 Opening !
Edit: I just noticed that by now, the PS2 RPGs have acess to 6 players in the battle scenes i think, so its quite an improvement from the old classic 3 chars of Wild Arms 1, X3 aww man i want a ps2 just to try this games out.

i have Final Fantasy Chrystal Cronicles Ring of Fate (for the ninentendo DS)
this is also a great RPG game. and if you like the cube version youll like this version for sure.
there are 2 modes you can play on
single player (here you controll 4 players (1 of each race) and go trough the story)
multplayer
the mulitplayer is very fun. you can make up to 8 characters. (you dont play with your singplayer chars)
and you can go trought the same levels you do on singleplayer (but now with up to 4 friends)
and there are also special multiplayer missions to do.
by doing missions the ppl in the town wil return (they are all gone at the start)
you can also play the multiplayer mode on your own. so you can level your character also without friends.
realy a good game. and hours of fun guaranteed
