"seems like you knew him fairly well. I'm sorry he had to go in such a way. Not to be rude, however, but did you expect people to chase out the orcs when you told them what happened? i suppose we(indicates party) may be able to help you, if we deem the risk worthy. It isnt wise to shrug off any danger, least of all from a group of orcs. Have you any idea how many there are? Are they a threat to this town? theres no point in driving them out for sheer pleasure, or because their stench is too bad.

Note: Whaaaat? >.< Why does nobody jump at the same plot hooks I would? Whatever, I'll try to work with it. One line really gets me...

/sobtheres no point in driving them out for sheer pleasure
More notes: btw bujin, are you trying for that impossibly stuffy way of speaking as part of the character? A lot of D&D players do that, but I find it unnecessary for most characters.Well, I never asked for help, but if you're offering it I'd be glad for it.
I don't know how many were there, I was too busy thinking "There are orcs!" to think "How many orcs are there?". There must have been at least ten of them in the great hall though though. As for the threat to his town, if you were to ask most other people here they'd tell you "Not in a million years," but I know better.
We've always had problems with the occasional orc raiding party in this little town, but we've always been pretty good at fending them off too. A long time ago back when I was just a boy, several orcs tribes gathered together and nearly took the entire town. In fact, now that I think of it, Sir Farwell was one of the survivors of that battle.
Anyway, I don't think it's a good idea to let orcs have their way. I've seen what can happen if things get out of hand...

looks like I need to give you some basic D&D knowledge. Your character would know this, so I'm not gonna do weird things.

Sorry, that's exactly typical orc behavior. Orcs are chaotic evil, and one of the stupidest humanoid races in the game. All that, plus they worship a god that teaches them the entire world belongs to the orc race so they need to kill everything that's not an orc.Orcs don't put themselves in danger like this just for the heck of it, or go around killing a single person...
also...
He didn't "step down". Loosing favor with the king isn't stepping down. Imagine if the president of the U.S. had the power to fire a state governor just by saying "I don't like you anymore. Hey, I like this guy-- he has your job now." It's something like that.who knows what he was doing when, as you say, he stepped down as duke and became another ordinary man...

(truly it is said..you can only learn this game by playing..)
"But is it really worth it? I mean, there is no point in putting ourselves in danger for nothing...true we should not allow orcs to get their own way, but, I don't really see how we are going to be able to come walking out of an angry mob of many orcs in a single piece...I don't really know..(to the rest of the party)what do you all think?"

np about your lack of info, we all have to start somewhere
ok, we have enough people with characters made and the introduction is pretty much complete. We need everyone who wants to play to add their two cents right about now. It's not too late to add your character if you wanna play (I can adjust enemies really easily because this is so slow) and I'd really like the people who have characters but haven't said anything to do, well, something =/

note: well jaegar, thats actually kinda close to how i normally talk. i dont think i sound too stuffy, but ill try to make it a bit less so.
"Well, if there's a threat to the town, i think we should help them out. besides, we might find something useful. 10 of them, and 4 of us anyway is piss odds for them."

He pauses for a moment after he finishes speaking, looks around as though he'd forgotten himself, then continues.Well, you seem to have formed a consensus...
It's not difficult to find Sir Farwell's keep. Turn left when you leave the Red Mule, then left again onto the main avenue. Several hundred feet out of town there's a small side road that splits from the main road. Follow that for about a mile through the woods and you'll end up at the front door...
He slowly stands up and gives you a nod, then walks over to the bar and sets a few coins on the counter for his drink. He glances around the bar one more time, then walks out the door.Well, it's starting to get late and the rain seems to have let up for the moment. I suppose I'll take my leave of you. If you have further need of me you can find me at home...
NOTE: Now is when you make general plans amongst yourselves (party roles, plans for when you get there, what time you're setting out, whatever). Feel free to discuss this places other than this thread if it's more convenient. HOLY CRAP!! I just realized that 3/4 of you know each other irl XD. Just make sure you post whatever plans you make here at some point anyway.
Note on finding Nate: Remember, most middle class shopkeepers live in apartment type home connected to their workplace. Don't go running off trying to find his house, just go to the butcher's shop.

Thanks ^_^ I've been DMing for a while, and I'm just now getting good at it. I also like how I can add the little NPC pics and spend more time working on the dialog than I can in a normal D&D game (I suck at spontaneous conversations XP). It's a shame I'm not gonna have any pics for the enemies. Some of them would be pretty funny.

NOTE before I forget: About the map... I started to upload it to photobucket, then noticed it was taking a really long time. I went and looked at the file and I was like "WHAAAAAOHLY BUH-JEEZES!!! I made a 7 MB .bmp! XD" sooo yeah, photobucket and imageshack wouldn't host it in that condition, so I went and shrank it. It's down to 1.xx MB now, but all the pretty details have been lost (T.T)
Also about the map. After I exported it from the map maker, the original file committed digital-suicide and is now thoroughly scrambled, so I can't do much to change it now. That path is supposed to go straight to the edge (and it does, just not on that map XD). And those orcs probably aren't gonna move. The next map (inside) is much smaller, so I won't have to shrink it. The original file also hasn't died (yet) so I'll be able to do stuff with it.
I now return you to your regularly scheduled game...
You rest in the inn overnight and head out the next morning. The clouds cleared up overnight, so the day is clear and bright. Just after you leave town you see the side road Nate mentioned. It's a well packed earthen path that's just barely wide enough to fit a cart.
The road runs through a sparse forest, although the path is relatively small, it runs fairly straight rather than winding a lot. The leaves are just beginning to change colors for the fall, so it's pretty pleasant. In the forest, you don't notice anything unusual.
After about thirty minutes you see a clearing several hundred feet away through the trees. The clearing is about 300 feet (90m) across and in the center is a large stone building. The building itself is about 100 feet (30m) by 100 feet and is at least two stories tall. The walls are fairly unadorned and there are a few small windows. The rooftop is flat and has crenelations.
In front of the building are two squat humanoids. Their skin is a drab green and you can easily tell from their squat, powerful build that they're orcs. They're standing in the general area of the door, but they don't seem to be paying much attention. One of them is walking around lazily carrying a great axe over his shoulder. The other seems to be throwing a rock in the air, trying to hit it with his falchion and failing (he doesn't seem to understand that throwing it higher will give him enough time to swing).
[map link]
I don't wanna put it straight on the page because it's still over 1 MB XD Sorry if the shrinkage made it hard to see. The orc in front of the door has the falchion, and the one in the grass (kinda blends in, down a bit and right from the other one) has the greataxe. Other than their weapons, they have the same gear (just some nasty looking studded leather armor)
Outside the map is forested enough that you can move around it without being seen pretty easily. As long as your hide and move silently modifiers are above -12 you're fine XD.

Ummmm o.O no.
The group left the inn, and traveled outside town to Farwell's keep. They see two orcs in front of it, but the orcs aren't paying enough attention to notice the party till someone in the party leaves the forest. I just spent several paragraphs describing the pretty details.
