Dragon Ball Kai

Post by Yoon »

Not sure if everyone's heard about this, but Toei Animation in Japan will be re-airing the Dragon Ball Z series starting in April, this time in HD format and marketing it as "Dragon Ball Kai". The HD remastering is likely to be similar to what Funimation has done with DBZ: Remastered editions.

Toei will also be doing significant cuts and edits to make the series very close to the manga, meaning that most of the filler stuff that was TV exclusive will be removed. I think this would be great, since it will make battles span across much fewer episodes and will make it a bit more faster-paced. A lot of the filler stuff material was unnecessary and boring anyhow.

They will also re-dub some parts using the original DBZ Japanese voice actors. More info on Dragon Ball Kai here:

Especially during the Freeza saga. That saga had so many useless TV-only subplots (like Bulma meets Ginyuu, retrospecting, fake Namek, etc.) that really didn't add to the main plot. Without the subplots, it could have been easily ~50 episodes shorter and keeping the focus on the main plot and battles.

The Frieze final fight was a big let down in the main series. It actually got boring in the end with them dragging it out for all it's worth. I am really looking forward to this!
