Yep, wisdom teeth are considered to be 'vestigal' (body part that no longer has any use, like the appendix), since modern humans don't need them. Some scientists believe that the original purpose of wisdom teeth were to help in grinding food and also serve as replacement for any loss of primary and secondary molars.

However, since modern human beings now have smaller jaws and with the advent of modern dentistry, wisdom teeth are no longer needed.

Well, some Japanese scientists were able to create stem cells from extracted wisdom teeth, so that would significantly help with disease and health research: http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id ... _article=1

About this article... well one things bothers me.
Stem cells are cells with potential of changing into any type of cell. Fine. But they said, that they removed ones from 10-years-old girl's mouth. Fine.
Now my question is:
If there is like 18-years-old person whose wisdom teeth are already grown up and that person wants to remove them (you remove them once they grow and bother you, amirite?)... well. Those are ready teeth, so all the stem cells have changed into teeth cells, no more potential.
"Because extractions of wisdom teeth are commonly operated in dental clinics, we can expect a lot of donors of stem cells," he said.
From ready grown-up teeth? Huh?

LOL, wish I could. :D

On Day 5 after the extraction, things aren't too bad. The swelling is gone, but I have a slight annoying pain near the spot where they removed my lower left wisdom tooth. However, the painkillers are taking care of that. ;)

Wisdom teeth are part of your adult teeth set, so once you get them removed, there's a gap there for the rest of your life. Fortunately, since wisdom teeth are considered unnecessary and are located in the far corners of your mouth, they have no effect on your smile.

ouch >.<

I was asleep when mine were pulled. Thanks to the absurd painkillers I didn't really feel anything (except numbness) for several hours. Then I fell asleep through the pain even. It's rather convenient to sleep though pain. I always hate stuff like that because it limits what you can eat.

My mouth used to be a complete mess. I had to have a tooth pulled in addition to my wisdom teeth (but that was really minor) as well as braces and an expander (to increase the width of my upper jaw).
