To deal with the issue of loitering teenagers in malls and stores, some places use a special tone to "deter" these teens. Apparently, while this tone can be commonly heard by people under 25, people above this age have difficulty in hearing it at all. Try out the tone test and see if you can hear it:

Can you hear the tone? I can hear it and it's quite annoying. :/ With a frequency like that, I definitely wouldn't want to hang out around that store/mall, let alone shop there. :p

I can hear it. but its not really that bad XD. though id probably get a headache if I listen to it for too long.

Yea me too D: And it's like... a very thin needle piercin my ears
And I thought that earphones will ruin my hearing~

Oww. Pretty surprising some people can't hear it. It is definitely a very iritating noise
