i got my last str ring now
only need to make my fire lock work

and nino
+9 boots.. are 300 mil ...
+9 shoes are 80 mil

2 def is nice ofcorse
but i rather have my +10% hp/sp
300 mil is just a bit to much.
i might buy the shoes and save for the boots (i could always sell the shoes again)

That's what I did. I made +9 shoes to use now and I might get boots later. It's probably not worth the trouble to bother with at all though.

Saying its not a total waste to go for the boots at some point, since it will be your last piece of equipment. I hear from many people that the difference is 'only 2 def', and automatically dismiss that its something worth going for in the end. The shoes are a good idea for now, but, the boots is something I advise in the future.

I have both the shoes and the boots, (I got the boots first though), and I can definiately say it feels alot better to wear the boots =)

+9 shoes [1] I've seen for 65 mil at it's lowest, and 75mil is pretty frequent (from Taco).

+9 boots [1] I think are around 250, not too sure about that. Hey, if you have good upgrading luck, maybe you can upgrade a load =)

Yeah. the boots are worth it if you have a ton of time to hunt money or boots and elu. If you evaluate it further using the prices you gave (which seem low to me) you see that 250mil-75mil=175mil

So that would be paying (or hunting the equivalent of) 175 million zenny to gain 2 points of defense. There are many cheaper ways to get defense. High upped boots are only worth it once you've gotten a freaking ton of other stuff. (AKA played for half of eternity)

Shall we get into a discussion on the value of 2 points of defense? I'm bored and at school, so yes

2 points of defense means that 2% of the damage you take from physical attacks is reduced, so it's helpful, but not overwhelmingly so.

Let's put this into perspective now... OK, let's take a generic damage number and compare the difference 2 def makes. You're hit by an attack that would do 1000 base damage. we'll start with 40 def and no vit def (because vit def isn't necessary in this argument).

The end damage from that attack when you have 40 def is 600 damage.

If that same attack hit you and you had 42 defense the damage would be 580 damage.

After those reductions there would be vit def reductions, damage reductions from skills, cards, ect. So we see that 2 def makes a difference, but nobody's gonna yell "OMG YOU HAVE 2 EXTRA DEF!!!1!1one! =o".

My final point is that defense isn't even 100% helpful. Crits ignore equipment defense, Magic (of course) ignores it, and ice picks and AD become even more powerful because of it.

In conclusion, 2 points of defense is mildly helpful, but definitely not worth 175 mil unless you've already bought almost everything else on the server.

Something your forgetting is that your defense caps out with other gears too. I'm saying its good to get it last because you won't need money anymore since you will have all your equips already.

It's also incorrect to look at it as just '2%' due to if you have high defense or high vitality. The other thing is, if a couple of defense is trimmed and a couple trimmed there, (say with other equips), it adds up really fast.

It's up to you if you want to pursue it, I am only giving my opinion that its not wise to outright dismiss it due to it costing alot. It sounds minimal to say 'its only 40 damage' but multiply that by the number of times you get hit =)

hm... ill might get boots later
ill be happy with +9 shoes for now

in my case + 10% hp/ sp from the card.
is of more valu for me then the 2 def.

so ill try to get shoes. and maybe later
get boots.... if i am uber richt (as if ...)

My point was that 2 def isn't worth 175mil unless you've already gotten most of the other def you can get, not that it's not worth it at all. Upgrading my HBH and Chainmail from +4 to +7 is also just 2 points per equip. The thing is that they're much cheaper to get.

and updated my champ a bit.

stil need +9 shoes/boots.

dunno what else i need right now.
