Heard about this on HardOCP, but apparently, someone was killed by a PC that exploded in his face.
Techie found dead in front of burnt computer
A young software engineer working with Tata Consultancy Services was killed in a suspected computer blast at his home on Telugu Brahmin
Street in Velachery late on Friday. The incident took place when Vijayakumar (28), hailing from Madurai, was working on the computer.
Police said his charred body was found in a sitting posture. “We are yet to ascertain the cause of the blast. The computer was completely damaged and the deceased was charred,” a police officer told TOI. Vijayakumar was sharing the house with two other software engineers, Vignesh (26) and Ram Prasad (26). When the accident occurred Ram Prasad was in the room with Vijayakumar, police said.
“Ram Prasad had gone to take bath. He told us that suddenly he heard a blast and when he rushed out he saw the charred body of his friend and fainted,” the officer said. However, the case has baffled the investigating officers. “It sounds quite unbelievable. We have not heard of such a case before. But the scene of the accident seems to suggest that the youth was killed in an accident as his body was in the sitting position in front of the burnt computer,” the official added.
I've seen PC's that have gone kaput and emitting some small sparks, but I've never heard of a PC actually blowing up and killing someone. Very bizarre (and sad).
ehm, sounds weird to me >_>. what kind of pc did he have for gods sake. one with nuclear power??
I can't imagine a computer being able to do that. I think there is something fishy going on here.

Woah... I don't really know what is a PC made of, but once I opened it it didn't look like something that could explode @.@ I burned my PC once and it didn't explode...

I did get smoke from my first comp and it did even work after that.
I dont believe that comp could explode either. I gave electroshock to my comp but it didnt explode.
Tough its hard to beleave a computer killing someone.
there's not much IN a computer that can explode.
Yeah, that's what gets me. Sure, there are things that can catch on fire, emit sparks and/or smoke, but exploding? Extremely rare and uncommon.
Anyhow, as unlikely an "exploding PC" is, I'm guessing that the likely culprit was PSU, since that is pretty much the only part that could possibly blow up. The guy must have been using a really low quality part that probably didn't meet standard specs.
PSU, is a power supply unit. you know, power for your comp to run XD.
Even if a psu explodes, i cant imagine it to turn someone into charcoal O_o.

Hmm... I turned the little red switch in one of my power supply units to wrong side and then on the computer. It didnt like it. Was near exploding I think. Got nice smoke cloud out of it
hmm unless aha that could be why
he was a engineer and mabey something was wrong with his PC so he trys to repair it. he may of put 2 wires or had made some error which i dunno what errors would of been enough to both start a pc and exsplode a pc but if he was in a sitting position then he might of been sitting there turning it on and then BANG. hmm anything that could cause a exsplosion if wired wrongly or placed wrongly by any chance?
theres is always conclusion 2 he put aload of gunpowder in it and oil and threw a match in it while sitting in his chair normally nah thats jest my joke
ehr. connecting 2 wires in a wrong way doesnt cause an explosion XD. The only thing I can think of what would happen is some of your computer components short circuiting, causing a bit of smoke.
Maybe an exploding capacitor, but those dont have enough power to turn someone into charcoal. unless you have a hugeass capacitor XD.
