Bumptop: A 3D Desktop

There's a cool, new application available that turns your normal 2D desktop into a 3D one. Called Bumptop, it takes advantage of your graphics card by creating a virtual 3D desktop space in which users can manipulate files and folders directly, either by using the mouse or fingers (for those with touchscreen panels).

Although reviewers say that using Bumptop works best with touchpanels/tablet PCs with Windows 7, the 3D deskspace works quite well with the traditional mouse on Windows XP and Vista as well. I recently just tried this out on a work computer and it works pretty well, without any major bugs or issues (so far). It does take some time to get used to, but the interface makes it for some fun, interesting interaction with desktop files and folders.

To learn more about Bumptop and where to download the application, check out this article by Endgadget.com: http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/08/vide ... #continued

Yeah, you could do that. Normal windows will look and act the same as before, but anything on the desktop (icons, files, etc.) will be laid out on the 3D desktop, with the ability to directly manipulate them (ex. moving, throwing, growing, shrinking, etc.).
