hmm... mostly I let my mother do the cooking. Since I still live at home.
Im not really great at cooking. I cook decent things though, as long as I have the recipe. Everything I have ever made tasted good to me
. So I have no problems about my cooking XD.
Cake is easy to make and apple pie
. hmm...... pie. then some dishes I learned how to make by watching how my mom makes them
. Im good at copying.

My mother and grandma are invincible when it comes to cooking. I know most of the recipes, but I haven't practiced it... for a long time XD I enjoy making desserts instead. Apple cake, 3 kinds of cookies, 2 kinds of chocolate cake and some others but my tiramisu still sucks >.>

hehehe I have successfully (I think) made nikuman (aka pork buns)! It's really hard learning to cook Japanese food when nobody in the house knows how and you've never seen some of the stuff you're making. >.<

That's what the "(I think)" is there for... They were pretty tasty though. My biggest problem was getting the dough to form the proper shape =/ I usually don't work with dough by hand. I think I figured it out though. I'm gonna tinker with the recipe next time too >3

tinker= replace with simular things,add new things, more of something or less of something,longer or shorter cooking time (dont agree with the shorter bit
) and change the way you use it (eg insted of dicing you could take the juice out of it
)

yeah, that's a pretty good summary. For example, the nikuman recipe. The filling originally called for a lot of onion and some bamboo shoots. I don't like large amounts of onion and don't normally keep bamboo shoots around so the second batch used cabbage in place of onion and onion in place of bamboo shoots. It turned out pretty well, I need to refine the amounts though.
Tinkering is a really easy way to learn how ingredients work together and try new things. A lot of the odd sauces I got for the recipes I'm trying I've never had before (oyster sauce??) so I'm looking at what flavor they add to the dish they're intended for and stuff, then using them to season other things. I'm not sure if it was the oyster sauce or what, but that was some awesome yakisoba I just had ^^p
oh, @sleyer shorter cooking can be really nice for cookies ;D Chewy cookies pwn crunchy cookies.
