Y-Corner Minecraft Server Attacked By Skynet (again)

Last night, I discovered that the Y-Corner Minecraft Server had been compromised. When logging in, a persistent scoreboard message displayed TERMINATED BY SKYNET,” and large areas around the starting zones in Source City and Oak Grove City had been covered with huge mountains of lava.

This appears to have been carried out by the same Minecraft griefing group, “Mountains Of Lava,” that attacked the Y-Corner Minecraft Server in December 2024. This infamous group is known for targeting and griefing private Minecraft servers, as highlighted in a YouTube video by TheMisterEpic:

Fortunately, I had a recent backup of the worlds from February 16, 2026. Although restoring from backups is frustrating, incidents like this are a strong reminder of why maintaining consistent backups of Minecraft server worlds is so important. Unfortunately, this also means that all changes made to the Y-Corner Minecraft Server after February 16 have been lost, since that was the most recent backup available.

The attack appears to have occurred after the most recent update to the Y-Corner Minecraft Server, which seems to have reset some previous security settings and allowed this exploit to succeed. Server security has since been updated to close the vulnerabilities this group uses to attack Minecraft servers. The Minecraft whitelist is now being strictly enforced, and all players are required to use valid, verified Minecraft accounts.

If your Minecraft server has been compromised by griefers such as “Mountains Of Lava,” a Reddit post on /MinecraftServerTalk provides helpful information on how to better secure your Minecraft server and prevent similar attacks in the future.

I apologize for the inconvenience.
